Famous Cities of the World -Amsterdam

Amsterdam is somewhat of a 'paradise' without the beaches and palms. While all these known images of Amsterdam fall true, it is also true that Amsterdam is a country with a big history. Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, the country that is renowned and sometimes even celebrated for the way they have been accommodating immigrant ethnic minorities. More recently, however, the 'Dutch model' of integration has come under pressure, partly due to international developments. Amsterdam is a very walk able city. You can cover the main areas in four or five hours.

Amsterdam is truly an enjoyable walking experience. Amsterdam is certainly a city of culture and with so many historical and interesting places to visit whilst on a short break, you are sure to find plenty to do. Book cheap flights to Amsterdam and visit the museums and art galleries this fantastic city has on offer. Amsterdam is also a very popular place for shopping. The shopping streets with the major brands are Kalverstraat and Nieuwedijk.

Amsterdam is the example of a very international city with commercial ties to the global economy and immigrant ties to the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. Amsterdam is one of eight top candidate cities that have slipped through the needle's eye of the evaluation panel and are now ready to become the first European Green Capitals ever. Amsterdam is a city of many faces. It is a unique historical city with impressive buildings along the ancient canals and world-famous cultural attractions such as the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum.

Amsterdam is one of the coolest cities in Europe. Beautiful, hip, and laid back, with lots to do, lots to see, many pubs, food from all over the world and friendly people. Amsterdam is a main attraction in Europe for a few good reasons: the city is beautiful and the streets are not crowded with cars--watch out for the bikes though! The locals are kind, generous and typically speak English well and with a smile, and, like most European capitols, there is TONS to do! Amsterdam is noted for many outstanding museums, including the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt House Museum and its world-class symphony orchestra - the Concertgebouworkest. The Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and drawings in the world and the Anne Frank House is also a popular tourist attraction.

Amsterdam is broadly oval in shape, measuring 8 km wide by 6 km across, with a maximum altitude of 881 m. Amsterdam is home to some fascinating museums and a few of them house some of the world's oldest and most stunning art collections. All in all Amsterdam is one of the greatest "small" cities in the world, and is the perfect place for a short ciy break or vacation getaway. Amsterdam is serious and sexy. A city built on tolerance, cafes, and bicycling.
